I enjoy a welcome mat. Not only are they an easy way to personalize and dress up the door of your apartment, they are very necessary in the wet winter weather. I did a little browsing on the interwebs and was able to find a handful of options that I found chic, like this 'Hello Doormat' from Chiasso (above).
